Hey guys, welcome to the Top 5 Comics for 2/22/17! In this week I learned about new characters. Hellcat, League of Shadows, and evil Reed Richard are all characters that I didn’t know about and now I do. I love learning about new characters and their history – that’s why I’m going to go study these individuals. Let’s kick it!
Here are the contenders for the week of 2/22/17
- Batman Beyond #5
- Detective Comics #951
- Elektra #1
- Hulk #3
- Infamous Iron Man #5
- Justice League of America #1
- Teen Titans #5
- Suicide Squad #12
Justice League of America #1
Justice League of America #1 did something that I was blindsided by – it made me think about the state that America is in. The truth is, America is in difficult times right now. If we are not fighting some other country we are fighting amongst ourselves. That’s one of the reasons why we are a country divided. A lot of people in this country don’t trust the government, law enforcement, the president, or even each other. How are we to supposed to work together to fix our problems if we can’t learn to trust, respect, and love one another?
Plot Synopsis – Meet the Extremists – self-proclaimed saviors from another Earth, they thirst for peace, prosperity and total submission to the will of their leader, Lord Havok! How can the newly assembled JLA stop this group of misguided maniacs before the Extremists unleash their own unique – not to mention dangerous – brand of law and order on our chaotic world?

Infamous Iron Man #5
Infamous Iron Man #5 was a very exciting issue. We got to see Doctor Doom be heroic and save Ben from his mother, S.H.I.E.L.D invade Lydia, and the introduction of Ultimate Reed Richard. I have no idea what happened to Doom’s mom in previous comics or how an evil version of Reed Richard came to be, but I’m thrilled to study more information about these characters. I also love the sense of irony in this issue, Doom finally becomes a hero only to have Reed Richard as a Villain. I cant wait to see what evil Reed has in store for Doom.
Plot Synopsis – What is Doom’s secret? Why, after all he has done to destroy and punish us, is he now determined to become the hero? Find the answer here. But can you trust anything he says or does? Plus: the identity of his new cosmic-level adversary is revealed! And it’s a doozy.

Detective Comics #951
Unlike Detective Comics #950, Detective Comics #951 introduces us to the League of Shadows. It’s clear that this is a skilled and deadly organization. As skilled and deadly as the members of the League of Shadows may be, their leader Shiva is even more so, and cruel too. We only see her in one page of the comic and that was enough to make a great impression. Shiva is not to be messed with or she will kill you. The interesting thing about the League of Shadows is they are a mystery to everyone but Jacob, Kate’s father. I myself am unaware of who they are, and I am looking forward to finding out more about the League of Shadows in Detective Comics #952!
Plot Synopsis – “League of Shadows” part one! The next big DETECTIVE arc explodes here as the League of Shadows goes from mysterious rumor to deadly fact! What’s their plan for Gotham City? And how will their actions affect Batman and his team?

If you haven’t been reading Hulk by Mariko Tamaki then you are missing out. This is a very different series than the previous Hulk titles. It’s been 3 issues and Jen hasn’t hulked out once. This is a psychological thriller, a book with much needed character development for Jennifer. We see her go through the motions trying to deal with what happened to Bruce and trying to recover from her fight with Thanos. And I’m totally digging this mysterious unknown presence in Masie’s apartment.
Plot Synopsis – Jen’s life is finally settling into a rhythm: She wakes up, goes to work, helps her new clients, goes home, watches a cooking video, and goes to sleep. But when a murder rocks the life of one of her newest clients, how will Jen react? Is there more to the situation than Jen Walters, lawyer, can handle? Will she need the HULK to get herself out of this jam?

Teen Titans #5
I freaking love this story arc guys! Not only did we see huge character development for the son of Batman, we also saw the Teen Titans grow and accept each other. In issue 5 we see the Teen Titans rescue Damian Wayne from his execution. Then something unexpected happens… Damian reasons with the Demon’s Fist kids so they wouldn’t fight the Teen Titans. He does it by revealing to them that they have families that loved and missed them. It was pretty cool for Damian to be so kind and thoughtful.
Plot Synopsis – “Damian Knows Best” finale! The final showdown between the Teen Titans and the Demon’s Fist is here! Will the Teen Titans rally behind their little leader? And will Ra’s al Ghul let anyone walk away alive?
